To serve diverse global communities by advancing, disseminating and applying engineering knowledge for improving the quality of life; and communicating the excitement of engineering.

ASME was founded in 1880, and has grown to include more than 130,000 members from 151 countries. About 30,000 of these members are students.

ASME is a non-profit organization that focuses on collaboration, sharing knowledge, and skills development across all engineering disciplines. Their goal is to help the global engineering community develop solution to benefit the lives of people around the globe.

  2. ASME is made up of a wide range of members (more than 130,000 in total)

    • Affiliate

      Involved with the profession, but a person who is not an engineer.

    • Student Member

      Enrolled in, at least at the undergraduate level, an approved engineering or engineering technology curriculum.

    • Member

      Must have eight years of experience as an engineer or a degree in an engineering curriculum

    • Fellow

      A corporate-level member of ASME, has been responsible for significant engineering achievements, and no less than 10 years of "active practice" and "continuous corporate membership" in ASME.

    • Honorary Member

      Rank awarded to members with distinguished engineering achievement. These members are selected by the ASME International Committte of Honors.
